Rob & Sandy

About us

Here's a little bit of our history.

Robert Andrew Sturtevant

Rob was born November 23, 1972 (Thanksgiving Day).  He grew up mostly in Rome, NY and graduated from RFA.  He then went on to SUNY Canton and RIT to study to become an engineer.  Throughout school Rob was actively involved in hockey and played lacrosse as well.  Outside of school Rob played with the Mohawk Valley Frasers bagpipe band.

Sandra Kay Beaton

Sandy was born February 20, 1979 in New Hartford, NY.  She grew up in North Utica and then Whitesboro.  Sandy graduated from Whitesboro High School in 1997.  Although not active in school sports, Sandy was a Scottish Highland Dancer for most of her Jr and Sr high years.  After graduation, she attended Herkimer County Community College and received her Associates Degree in Business Administration.  Later Sandy decided to become a teacher and started working toward that.  In 1998, she joined her future husband as a snare drummer for the Mohawk Valley Frasers.

Mr. & Mrs. Sturtevant

We had known each other for a VERY long time.  Rob's family was involved with the bagpipe band as was Sandy's dad.  At the age of 5, Sandy decided that one day she would marry Robbie and who would have ever guseed that June 3, 2000 would be the day!

In the summer of 1997, we started dating.  Our first official date was to the bagpipe band's 4th of July picnic and then off to the fireworks at Sylvan Beach.  After going out for about a year we got enganged at the Hunter Mountain Celtic Festival on August 16, 1998.  Not quite 2 years (and a lot of planning) after that we were married on a beautiful June day.  Rob, his best man, and the bride and groom's fathers all wore kilts.  Friends and family, including some from Scotland, gathered to celebrate our special day.  After the wedding we flew off to Florida on our honeymoon.

To start our new life together, we rented an apartment in Baldwinsville, NY.  Rob was working there so it just made sense.  A year later we moved to Liverpool, NY.  Not too long after the move, we discovered that we were going to be parents and that prompted us to look for a home in Rome, NY.  On April 24, 2002 at 4:54 pm, we welcomed our beautiful daughter Kayleigh Jean.  Kayleigh is named partially for mommy (my middle name is Kay) and for Sandy's aunt in Scotland (although her name is Jane, we all call her Jean).  Two weeks after bringing Kayleigh home to Liverpool, we moved to our new house in Rome.

After a while we decided it was time to expand our family again and in October 2004 we found out that we were going to have another baby.  This time we were going to have a boy!  On June 14, 2005 at 1:24 pm Braeden Robert was born.  We struggled with names for quite a while this time, but we finally agreed that we liked Braeden.  And of course, he gets his middle name from daddy.

That's our history and now we are very busy keeping up with our kids!
